BLANCONEGRO: BLACK-AND-WHITE COLLECTIBLE DESIGN AND CONTEMPORARY ART IN BARCELONA
BLANCONEGRO Exhibition. October 2026.
Two colours. Three artists. Nothing else.
BLANCONEGRO, the exhibition that opens the new season at BLANCONEGRO BARCELONA, brings together collectible design and contemporary art under one strict rule: black and white only. On view from October 2 to December 6, 2026, by private appointment, it presents new and recent work by Robert Pous, ITS A MOOD and Justino Del Casar: sculpture, painting and sculptural furniture made to be lived with.
WHY BLACK & WHITE
Colour can flatter, distract or decorate. Without it, a piece has only its form, its material, its proportion and the intent behind it. That is the test this exhibition sets. Every work was selected because it holds the room in monochrome, on its own terms.
The result is a show that refuses the usual division between the object you use and the object you look at. A chair, a column and a painting share the same floor, the same palette and the same ambition. For collectors, interior designers and architects, that is the point. These are pieces chosen to shape a space.
ROBERT POUS: GEOMETRY, TIME AND THE HUMAN FORM
Robert Pous at BLANCONEGRO BARCELONA
Robert Pous works where art meets science, drawing on physics, philosophy and art theory. His practice unfolds in three ongoing lines of research: Morphologies of Time, Morphologies of Space and Human Morphologies.
Time deals with transformation and the act of making itself. Space turns to geometry and the tension between empty and full, using contrast to suggest metaphysical and virtual dimensions. Human Morphologies joins the two: sinuous lines and labyrinths become bodies, a visual language for how identity forms.
In black and white, Pous’s work reaches its sharpest edge. His paintings, drawings and tall, dark figurative sculptures move between the abstract and the bodily. A single white line on black is enough to carry a figure. His work already lives in hospitality and private interiors across Catalonia, including Grupo Tragaluz, the ABaC Hotel lounge bar and Hotel Mas Pastora.
ITS A MOOD: SCULPTURAL FURNITURE IN MICROCEMENT
Maria Massaad at BLANCONEGRO BARCELONA
ITS A MOOD is the sculptural design practice of Maria Massaad. Born in Lebanon, she trained in Interior Architecture before moving to Barcelona for her Master’s, then learned construction and craft first-hand on renovation sites. That combination of technical grounding and intuition defines the studio.
Its signature material is microcement, applied by hand in layered, continuous surfaces. The pieces in BLANCONEGRO are sculptural white chairs, lounge chairs, benches and organic dining tables on cylindrical bases. They read as architecture and as furniture at once. Each piece emerges through a slow, intuitive process, its form revealed gradually rather than constructed, and keeps the traces of the hand and the time that made it.
“Made by hand, guided by mood.” This is collectible design in its truest sense: functional, one of a kind, and made to anchor a room.
JUSTINO DEL CASAR: RECYCLED PAPER SCULPTURE
Justino Del Casar, born in Madrid, trained at the Escuela de Artes y Oficios Artísticos in Toledo and has worked from his studio in Valencia since 2013. Over years, he developed his own technique: reducing paper to pulp and remoulding it entirely by hand into dense, load-bearing forms.
His raw material is what society discards: lottery tickets, philosophy exams, court rulings, bank documents, packaging and propaganda. In his hands it becomes unique handmade sculpture: totems, anthropomorphic figures, columns and vessels that recall ancient hand-shaped tools. Their surfaces range from matte black to speckled charcoal and pale grey.
The work is a quiet argument against disposability. Consumption passes; the human being endures. “Paper remembers what people forget.”

DESIGN AND ART, ONE SPACE
Together, the three artists cover the full range of the brief. ITS A MOOD gives you the functional object. Pous gives you the purely visual. Del Casar works between the two, with sculptures that can also be vessels and columns. Seen side by side in black and white, the boundary between art and design stops mattering.
A MODERNIST SETTING IN POBLE SEC
BLANCONEGRO BARCELONA occupies Casa Jaume Vidal on Carrer de Salvà, one of the few listed modernist buildings in Poble Sec, built more than a century ago. Old walls, new objects. The contrast is the same one the exhibition is built on.
The space, formerly EAST WEST SPACE, also takes its new name from this exhibition. BLANCONEGRO stands for clarity, contrast and design made to last.
